abstract

The Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) and more recent Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) are hierarchical classification systems of geographical areas consisting of a number of interrelated structures. The data provide a common framework of statistical geography and enables the production of statistics which are comparable and can be spatially integrated.

The source data is available from the ABS website: From 1990 to 2010 = 1216.0 - Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) (https://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/second+level+view?ReadForm&prodno=1216.0&viewtitle=Australian%20Standard%20Geographical%20Classification%20(ASGC)~2001~Previous~28/09/2001&&tabname=Past%20Future%20Issues&prodno=1216.0&issue=2001&num=&view=&) Note: data between 1981 and 1990 are provided by CD ROMS.
